Revisiting Rap-letes and Early NBA Predictions (Opinion)

I’ve been gone for a minute, now I’m back again. It’s Speed on the Beat back on Boi-1da.net for your dose of opinionated sports-meets-music talk. Recently, in the midst of being the face of the Portland Trail Blazers, legitimately [messing] up some commas, and assuaging Rip City’s fears about LaMarcus Aldridge’s move to San Antonio, Blazers guard Damian Lillard decided to drop some new music on us. Now, those who’ve followed Lillard for his NBA tenure know that he, along with dropping buckets, began #4BarFriday. So, it wasn’t exactly a surprise to see “Dame DOLLA” drop a full-length freestyle, fittingly over the “Commas” instrumental. I’ll be perfectly honest with you: even though I knew he could go, I had tempered expectations, mainly because of the various other rap-letes I’ve discussed on here.

Lillard exceeded my expectations and even had a few quotables in his verse. However, as great as it was, I hope he sticks to basketball. Why? Well, we need another Cinderella story in the league this year. We had Golden State this past season. How awesome would it be for Lillard to perform his team’s victory song? Ok, I’m getting ahead of myself. Let’s talk some legit sports.

We’ve only got a few more months until the NBA season kicks off and it’s going to be an interesting one–especially if the moves that’ve been taking place shift the game the way that they’re set to. LeBron’s taking his talents back to Cleveland, D-Wade’s staying in South Beach, and the Lakers (sorry Lakers fans) seem destined to be lottery picks again this year. The Warriors are pretty much the same team they were last year (which is a unicorn in this day and age of the NBA), the Wizards had to replace Paul Pierce with two guys (or so), and James Harden’s probably going to, on a whim, get contacted to have a beard off with Daniel Bryan because WWE likes to stay trendy (even though this was already a thing in 2013 with Oakland A’s outfielder Josh Reddick).

But, at least Harden, no disrespect to Reddick, has people worldwide who know him...

See.

Right now? I see a repeat Finals between Cleveland and Golden State. The moves other teams’ve made are great, and needed. But, I just don’t see anyone topping Cleveland and Golden State. Of course, we’re still a couple months out, so things may/probably will change. So, take these predictions with several grains of salt. But, for now, let’s just listen to Dame drop knowledge on this track.
